What is IPL ?

IPL stands for intense pulsed light, and it is a form of light therapy, similar to laser, it is used for various dermatological procedures including permanent hair removal. 

IPL gained widespread popularity for the many benefits it affords the user. This modern technology aims to remove unwanted hair, slow the aging process by reducing wrinkles and perfect the skin tone by treating blemishes. Multiple uses of IPL also increase collagen production in the skin, leaving you glowing from the inside out! Due to IPL's diverse range of uses and proven results, IPL is a must for anyone wanting to look and feel their best. 

How does IPL Work?

As with all light based hair removal treatments, our IPL handset works by emitting a wavelength which targets pigment in the hair. As the light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair it turns to heat which then kills the hair growth cells. Hair will grow back more sparse and slower after each treatment, reducing hair growth permanently overtime.

Is Numu IPL Hair Removal Safe?

There have been many clinical studies conducted that demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of IPL for hair removal. Due to this fact, it has become an extremely popular option for safe and effective method of hair removal at home and in clinics. 

In short, IPL hair removal is a very safe treatment and if used as instructed, our handset poses no risks to the user! It is FCC, CE and RoHs certified for safe use. 

Numu also ensures that all UV wavelengths are filtered by blocking wavelengths below 470 nm from the IPL spectrum. This is standard among most IPL systems. This is done to prevent the light doing damage to the outer layer of the skin, this means your handset will never cause longterm complications caused by UV exposure such as skin cancer, skin aging and etc.

Does Numu IPL Hurt?

One of the biggest advantages of our IPL handset over other types of hair removal is that it is far less painful. with our added frost technology it is the perfect combo to eliminate any pain felt . However The feeling is dependent on many factors and varies from person to person. The majority of our customers have said they don't feel a thing at the lowest intensity level 1! But only a slight sting at the highest intensity level This is to say we have 5  intensity levels to choose from, this will allow you to select the most comfortable intensity level for you. We also have a very simple method of determining the perfect intensity level for you by gradually startting from 1 and working your way up & dont forget to activate the frost .

Do I need to wear eye protection?

No, it isn't necessary to wear eye protection while using our handset , However we do advise you to wear it & provide protective eye protection with our NUMU Bundle.  Just so you know our handsets are fitted with a sensor and will not pulse and light unless the entire window is pressed against your skin. That being said you should never try and look directly into the light as it flashes. People with Epilepsy should not use this product as the IPL has a bright flash.

Does Numu IPL work for my skin tone and hair colour?

IPL is suc­cess­ful remov­ing body hair due to the pres­ence of a hair pig­ment known as melanin. This absorbs the light energy emit­ted by the device and directs it to the hair fol­li­cle, to remove hair and pre­vent future growth.

Nat­u­rally dark pig­mented skin how­ever will con­tain more melanin than lighter skin tones so more energy is absorbed. This means indi­vid­u­als with dark skin tones are more sus­cep­ti­ble to burns fol­low­ing treatment. This does not exclude all darker skin tones.

This means IPL may not be as effective on very light blonde, red, or grey coloured hair. As long as the root of your hair is brown or black it should work for you! For dark blonde roots the treatment may take longer to take effect but will work with time and consistency, any shade darker will work perfectly!

How long will it take before I see results?

Most customers begin to notice a noticeable reduction of hair growth after just 3-4 weeks, with treatments done once a week, and complete results after 12 weeks. The hair will grow back more sparse and slower after each treatment eventually turning into a permanent reduction in hair growth. To maintain hairless smooth skin after that, use the handset once every 2 to 3 months for a touch up or as needed. Results and treatment length needed may vary from person to person.

According to the FDA, permanent hair removal means the “long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs regrowing after a treatment regime.” Which is what our handset provides! But this may differ from the average interpretation of ‘permanent’. Remember even in-clinic laser is not fully permanent. In any case, if you don’t mind just one touch up every 3-4 months after the full treatment is complete, then I’d say it’s a no brainer !

What is NUMU Frost Technology?

Numu IPL is the only device with active frost mode , which cools the aera which is being treated . Numu frost can be activated or deactivated by the users prefrence .

Is it safe to IPL while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Although there is no evidence showing that IPL has negative effects on pregnant or breastfeeding women, we still don’t recommend using Numu handset as a precaution.

At what age can you start IPL treatment?

Generally, we only recommend that IPL hair removal treatment should only be done for someone 16 and up, due to the hair being at a mature state. 

Certain ethnicities see hair growth maturity at younger ages, use is up to the user and anyone under 18 years old should seek parental consent and an expert opinion (aesthetician/dermatologist) prior to use of our IPL handset. 

How often do I need to use Numu IPL?

We recommend using your handset once a week for the first 12 weeks. You can also use it twice per week for faster results. After this period, use the handset once a month for 3 months or until satisfied. To maintain hairless smooth skin after that, you may need to use the handset once every 2 to 3 months or as needed.

It is not necessary to treat the area more than once a week. This is because IPL is most effective in the hair growth phase, and some hairs may be dormant during treatment. This is why it is recommended to do 12 consecutive weeks of treatment. If you are struggling to see results, try a higher intensity and use your handset 2 times per week (never more). Do this until you see some results, then you can reduce your frequency back to once per week.

 

Is it safe to IPL over freckles or moles?

You should not IPL over very dark freckles or moles, however light freckles are fine.

Is it safe to IPL over tattoos?

You should not IPL over tattoos. However, going around tattoos is fine.

Can I use this product before or after tanning?

If you have recently been tanning, we recommend waiting 2 weeks before using your handset. You should wait 48 hours to tan after using your handset. Artificial tan should not be on your skin while using your handset.

How is the Numu handset powered?

Our handsets are dual voltage (110V~240V) meaning it will work in every region in the world & comes with a 12V Uk  power supply . Please note : It must be connected at all times for the device to work.

How to use Numu device safely?

❌ Do not use the NUMU IPL Handset in or around water. 

❌ Do not use the NUMU IPL Handset near the eyes (use from the upper lip down).

❌ Do not use the NUMU IPL Handset if you are under the age of 16.

❌ Do not use the NUMU IPL Handset if you are menstruating, pregnant or lactating.

❌ You should not use NUMU IPL over very dark freckles or moles, however light freckles are fine.

❌ Do not use the NUMU Handset over tattoos.

❌Do not use the NUMU IPL Handset on broken or burnt skin.

❌Do not use the NUMU IPL Handset over the same area more than 3 times in a single session.

❌Never aim the the NUMU IPL Handset light window at or near your eyes.

What if I was getting Laser treatments at a clinic/salon?

If you have been getting treatments at a laser clinic, you should wait 2 days before using the NUMU IPL as this may increase your risk of a reaction.

Who should not use NUMU IPL?

Pregnant and nursing mothers. People with eczema, psoriasis,lesions, open wounds or active infections (e.g., cold sores) in the intended treatment area should wait for the area to completely heal before using the handset. People with a history of keloid scar formation. People taking medication which make the skin more sensitive to light,including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (N-SAIDs, e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen), tetracyclines, phenothiazines, thiazide,diuretics, sulfonylureas, sulfonamides, DTIC, fluorouracil, vinblastine, griseofulvin, Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Beta-Hydroxy Acids (BHAs),Retin-A, Accutane (isotretinoin) and/or topical retinoids. People with abnormal skin conditions caused by diabetes or other systemic or metabolic diseases. People who are currently using or have recently used Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Beta-Hydroxy Acids (BHAs), Retin-A,topical retinoids or azelaic acid. People who have used Accutane (isotretinoin) in the past 6 months. People who have used steroids in the last three months. People with a history of herpes outbreaks (unless a physician has administered a preventative treatment). People with epilepsy. People with active implants, e.g., a pacemaker, incontinence device, insulin pump, etc. People with a photosensitivity-related disease, e.g., porphyria, polymorphic light eruption, solar urticaria, lupus, etc. People with a history of skin cancer or areas of potential skin malignancies. People who have received radiation therapy or chemotherapy within the last 3 months.

Do I have to shave before using IPL? Which other hair removal methods can I use?

Yes, we recommend that you shave the desired areas between treatments and before using NUMU IPL. Shaving takes the hair down to the appropriate length whereas not to cause any burns during treatment but also allowing the hair root to get targeted effectively. Other forms of hair removal including waxing and tweezing will remove the hair root entirely. Which won't allow the IPL to target the root. That being said if you run your hand over the area and cannot feel any hair at all, then there is no need to shave. In regards to peach fuzz on the face, we recommend derma planning to remove those hairs prior to treatment.

How do I clean my handset?

To clean you NUMU handset, disconnect the device from the electricity supply. Wipe with a clean, dry cloth and 70% Rubbing alcohol/Surgical Spirit .Never use acetone or other abrasive fluids, because they will damage your device. Then use a wipe to dry the device.

Never immerse your handset or any of its parts in water. 

What is the NUMU IPL lamp made of?

The flash lamp in our handset is a Xenon Quartz Raytube with a glass filter to filter out harmful UV rays.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit / debit  cards  which also inclueds Apple pay & google pay .  

Where is my refund?

We aim to process refunds within three days of an item being returned to us. Please note, however, that your bank may take several days to process the payment back into your account. With that said, please allow up to ten working days after posting the item back to us before getting in touch about your refund. We’ll contact you by email to let you know when your refund has been processed.

Can I place an order without creating an account?

Yes. You can place an order as a guest with no obligation to create an account. We do recommend that you create an account, however, if you’d like to check your order history and have your shopping basket items and payment details saved for next time. It’s quick and easy to create an account at checkout .

Where is my order confirmation?

This is automatically sent to your email address  when you place an order. If you haven’t received your order confirmation within 24 hours, please get in touch at info@mynumu.com just in case there’s a problem with your order. Please check your mailbox’s spam or junk folder before contacting in case the order confirmation has been diverted there.

Why has my order been canceled?

We typically only cancel orders if there’s a problem with stock, or if you’ve asked us to cancel. Please accept our apologies if your order is canceled because of a problem at our end. We’ll always offer an alternative product and process your refund in full, as quickly as possible.

How do I cancel my order?

There is only a short amount of time between when you place your order and when we start processing it. If you contact us straight away after ordering, via info@mynumu.com, we may be able to cancel your order before it’s processed. If not, we’ll despatch your order and then you can return it to us if you wish upon receiving it.

Can I alter my order?

Sadly, we’re unable to modify your order once we’ve started processing it. If you need to order a greater quantity or an additional product, please place a new order online.

Returns

Can I return or exchange an item?

You can absolutely return your item to us, within 14 days after receiving it, as long as it’s undamaged, unused and contained in its original packaging with all tags and labels attached. Unfortunately, we don’t offer exchanges unless the product is faulty .

How do I return an item?

Please contact our customer service team via info@mynumu.com . Providing the return is within the 14-day cancellation period and meets our return criteria, . You will need to arrange and pay for suitable packaging & return posting costs when returning an item.

What do I do if I lose my packing slip?

We send rpacking slip / Invoices by email, so if you can locate the email we sent you, simply print off a new one. If you can’t find this email, please get in touch and ask for it to be resent to you.

My order has arrived but it’s not as I expected. What can I do?

In the rare event that your order arrives damaged or faulty, please take photos of the product in question and email our customer service team via info@mynumu.com  with the details. We’ll respond within 48 hours. If you just don’t like the product for any reason, we’ll gladly accept it back as a return, providing it’s in “new” condition, in its original packaging with all labels attached & device not been used .
